Até logo Portugal
Dearest Portugal,
They say all good things must come to an end and in this case, it is sad, but true. My three year love affair has come to a close. But I will never forget you and all that you have done for me. Living here has made me a better person. I can say that without a doubt. I have been surrounded by the most generous, humbling, amazing, and wonderful people. In fact, I am truly lucky...

Good life of a dog
This one if for my father in law and his dog that died this year, Ladi.
You know I am really going to miss my in laws, my father in law especially. I have learned so much from this man. A stubborn Old Portuguese man meets a stubborn younger independent American woman. Seems like a recipe for disaster but somehow it has managed to work itself out.
He is always telling me a story about the past or...

Praia Fontatelha
It seems that the coastline just never ends in Portugal. From the north to the south it’s just beautiful beach after beautiful beach, each with it’s own stunning personality and story. This post comes to you from Praia Fontatelha which is one of many beaches within a 20-30 minute radius from where I live.
Honestly I only really found one thing that was special about this beach....

Sunday afternoon out....
Yesterday I got to spend a whole afternoon out with my husband. Just the two of us enjoying each other’s company. Seems like a simple thing for most people but when you live with your in laws and more family lives above us, you don’t get a lot of alone time. Plus I have just under two months left living in Portugal where I will be leaving him behind for a few months. So it is...
It's either her or the dog
I’ve been living in Portugal almost three years and have learned a lot. My Portuguese is so so but I understand a shit ton. I watch and listen to everything. I have learned the way people deliver jokes, their body language, the way the pronounce certain words, etc. In the beginning I was intimidated and afraid to imitate what I saw but no I do not care. It’s balls to the wall. Let it...

A day at the beach....Lagoa Albufeira
I was able to get out again on Wednesday and enjoy another afternoon at the beach. This time I went to Lagoa Albufeira. See this is one of the things that I absolutely love about living near the coast in Portugal. Within 25-35 minutes there are at least a half a dozen, if not more, beaches I can go to. Even more if I am willing to drive out a bit further.
The cool thing about Lagoa is that it is...
A day at the beach....Sesimbra
This week was nice because I got to hit the beach twice! As a young girl I grew up spending summers on the Jersey Shore and I just love it. Even to this day as soon as I find a spot to throw down my bag, I throw it down, and off I go to the water. This made my niece particularly happy because she knew she was going to have a playmate for a good part of the day.
Monday we went to Sesimbra. I love...
Speaking and thinking in another language
I am a member of a site called Inter Nations. It’s sort a place where ex-pats can come together and tell tales of living outside their own countries plus find out what’s going on where they currently are. A gentleman posted a story today about how he speaks multiple languages and how it affects his dreams, thoughts, and daily life. It was a great post and I had to reply to it. I...

Dia da Mãe (Mothers Day, Portuguese Style)....
Dia da Mãe (Mother’s Day)
I don’t know how other families in Portugal roll, but I think I married into one of the best! These people know how to enjoy themselves. Even with the crisis looming over all our heads, my family still throws down for every birthday and holiday. And let me say it’s not about the money or the presents. It’s about everyone coming together and enjoying the day.
I don’t have...

A Nice Sunday out and about!
It’s been more than a few weeks that we have been stuck at home. We have spent a lot of time with family or just stayed home. The weather has been a bit colder and let’s be honest, after the holidays there isn’t a lot to go around.
Well our good behavior finally paid off and we treated ourselves to a day out alone. We got up and had some breakfast and then hit the fair in...

Beat your Meat and Choke that Chicken! (thanks DB)
It’s been almost three weeks since we moved into our new place. Life has been great. I am sleeping so much better. I am getting to cook and bake my heart out. We have the privacy, peace, and quiet we had been missing. All is well on the new home front.
And then……….
I don’t know if it’s me and the somewhat black cloud of “Hey I like to fuck with...

Non traditional tree for a non traditional...
So this is our first Christmas in our new place in Portugal which is both frightening and exciting at the same time. Even though I hate all the BS that goes along with Christmas I am a sucker for a tree, decorations, and some light holiday music. Especially with being so far away from home it makes me think of my family and holidays passed.
With that being said I felt the apartment was missing a...
